Hi lovelies,
As promised here is a review post on the much talked about Momofuku CCDC and Milk Bar in Washington, D.C.
Milk Bar:
So I had heard alot of hype about this place when it first opened up – I constantly heard that you need reservations and that it is impossible to get in etc. So I decided to wait it out a bit to see where it lands. I did end up going to the adjoining “Milk Bar” which is the dessert store for Momofuku CCDC, the week it opened. I was super excited to try a bunch of different desserts but my feelings fell alittle flat at my options. Milk bar has a specialty which I guess some people enjoy thoroughly but is not something I am very interested in trying – Cereal Milk.
Now you are wondering what is Cereal Milk? Cereal Milk is exactly what it sounds like, it is basically the milk you will find at the bottom of your bowl once you finish your cereal, all the soggy bits drowned in your milk. My husband and I both try to eat our cereals as quickly as we can so it won’t get soggy, so clearly this item wasn’t a choice for us.
I did want to try their cake bombs and cookies. The cake bombs were nothing spectacular, they are tiny balls of cake and come in a pack of three. I really felt I could have gotten them anywhere. We decided to buy some cornbread and blueberry cream cookies. I was hyped on the cornbread cookies and wasn’t really looking forward to the blue berry ones. But as it turns out I did not like the cornbread cookies at all, they just tasted weird to me. But the blueberry cookies are to die for! I am now a regular consumer of those cookies anytime I am in the area. Let me know if you visited Milk bar what items did you try and enjoy?
MomoFuku CCDC:
First look upon walking into the restaurant, I was completely in love! The beautiful Asian inspired wall art to the wooden low tables and stools, it all made for the perfect restaurant ambiance something that I haven’t experienced in DC before. We had the option of either being seated indoors or outdoors. Since it was windy outside, we chose the option to sit indoors and also take in all the beautiful art all around us.
As the menu was presented to us, I immediately uttered with excitement that I want to try the brisket buns! And I am glad that we made that decision, they were my fave item that I ordered. The meat was perfectly cooked and tender and the dough was the right consistency – the flavor of pickled onions, cucumbers and horseradish blended well with the meat and created a flavorful explosion for your tastebuds.
The second item we ordered was the Beef noodle soup – This has to be the most disappointing dish I ordered, it was bland and made me feel that I am eating some place sub par. Maybe this is why this location gets some negative comments. I mean they are known for their Ramen in NYC so I guess that what everyone tries and gets disappointed over.
We also ordered Braised Fried Chicken and oh my God – it was yet another delicious dish. You know what maybe I am not sure what my fave item was. Because this dish was just as flavorful as the buns. The cutlets of chicken come in a small curry base with cabbage and scallions along with some white rice. The flavors are not too spicy and to mild. All the notes of the seasoning go well together and we slurped the whole dish as fast as we could.
So I give Momofuku CCDC in D.C 4 starts in my book. I will definitley return and get the tried and tested dishes along with something new!
Feel free to recommend any of your fave dishes and I will see if they are available in D.C for me to try! Until next time sweeties!
